Just speaking for myself. If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. Psalm 130:3-4

Christian Aid Ministries in Haiti

CAM INTERNATIONAL CRISIS PROJECT
Earthquake Hits Haiti!
Tens of thousands of people are feared dead. Many thousands more lost their homes.

The strongest earthquake to hit the area in over 200 years struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. It registered 7.0 on the Richter scale, and was centered 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince. Many aftershocks have followed.

Tens of thousands of people are feared dead in this desperately poor country of 9 million. Many thousands more lost their homes. Untold numbers were trapped under rubble. Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's destroyed capital. Block after block of buildings are destroyed. There might be millions who need emergency aid.

CAM-Haiti staff members spent much of the night helping dig people out of concrete rubble. They were traumatized by what they saw and heard -- dead bodies strewn around, sounds of tapping from those still alive but trapped deep under the debris, dead and injured pushed in wheelbarrows, and much more. It is so scary digging people out; one wrong move could kill them, says Darvin Seibel, CAM's staff member in Haiti. One lady's head was pinched so tight, any shifting would instantly kill her!

CAM's Haiti headquarters and warehouse suffered minor damage, but nothing compared to the surrounding area. Darvin's wife, Jo, described the frightening event: Our two-story, concrete house . . . rocked and swayed and shook violently . . . doors and drawers flew open, dishes crashed to the floor. Melanie and Deborah with her two children came dashing down from the guesthouse . . . but all of us were safe as we shakily gathered under the trees. We could hear wailing from Titanyen and see dust rolling toward the mountains. Darvin came tearing in the lane and cried out, "It's bad!"

Some of the staff went to a nearby clinic to help. Jo wrote: Melanie spent her time cleaning up burn victims; the flour mill went down, and there were some bad burns from that. To get inside the clinic you had to step over a man.

A young dad brought in his daughter who had a 5-inchlong, deep cut on her head. Tears ran down his face as he held his little girl, his love and concern obvious even as he spoke sharply to her to hold still. (She had no anesthesia while the doctor stitched her cut.) Her cries of "Jesus, help me!" were heart-wrenching.

Our Titanyen facility has been turned into a relief center and mini-hospital to feed and care for homeless mothers with young children. A USA CAM rescue team, including some EMTs, flew to Haiti to help look for survivors and do cleanup. Our staff in Haiti, including the La Source medical clinic team, is doing everything they can to provide emergency aid. Later there will be a lot of rebuilding to do as well.

The needs are endless. Respond as you feel led. It is our hope to raise at least $1,000,000 to assist the earthquake survivors. Above all else, please pray; many are suffering! . . . the foundations of the earth do shake . . . the earth is moved exceedingly. Isaiah 24:18-19

God bless you!

“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

funny story about my sisters

My sister Barbara purchased a shirt at the Salvation Army thrift store. My other sister Angela asked, "Where did you get that shirt?" Barb said, "The Salvation Army." Then Angela said, "Oh, that used to be mine. I gave it to the Salvation Army."

"Many people think perfect freedom is being able to do just what you want to do. No rules, no one telling you what you can do or what you must not do. But God has told us that perfect freedom is surrendering our lives to the control and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Then we are functioning as we have been created. To be free is to be free in Christ." - Miss Nancy Coblentz
